What Is Body Lift Surgery?
Aging, exposure to sun, pregnancy, fluctuations in weight, and genetics may result in skin that has poor elasticity. This causes the skin to sag and hang loosely in areas like the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. The body lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and sagging skin, shaping and tightening several areas of your body, often during the course of a single surgery. Body lift surgery is intended specifically for the removal of excess skin and fat but it is not a substitute for weight-loss.
Who Is Eligible for Body Lift Surgery?
If any of the following apply to you, this procedure may be an excellent option:
Preparations for the Surgery
Before going ahead with the body lift surgery, talk to your board certified plastic surgeon and find out more about the process. Gather as much information as possible – it is always better to be fully informed about the procedure. Your surgeon will also want to know the answers to several health-related questions, including your allergies, current medications you take, and your complete medical history. If you smoke, stop as soon as possible. Smoking will increase your risks of complications associated with body lift procedures.
The Body Lift Procedure
Body lift surgery requires extensive incisions to remove fat and to tighten the skin. The length and pattern of the incisions depend on the amount and location of the excess skin that is to be removed. Surgical techniques allow incisions to be made at points where they can be hidden by most types of clothes.
For the surgery, your surgeon will recommend and administer the type of anesthesia required. After anesthesia is administered, the incisions will be made at surgical sites. Once the excess tissues have been removed, the incisions are closed using sutures, skin adhesives, tapes, or clips.
After the surgery, make sure to follow your surgeon’s post-surgical care directions as closely as possible. You will be advised to not perform exercises for a certain lenght of time in order to avoid any sort of complications with the healing process. You will need to stay home from work until you’re given the go-ahead to return. You will also be given medicines to take during your recovery process.
