The Day of Your Surgery

After your tummy tuck procedure, it’s your time to relax as you recover. Right after surgery, we will take you to our recovery room until you are able to go home. While you may feel fine, or even great, after your procedure, you will still need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours. Before you leave, the nurse will review your aftercare instructions with you and your driver and give you a copy to take home. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask the nurse or contact us at any point of your recovery. For the next few days, you should focus on healing and have plenty of rest, but you should also be up and moving around. We recommend taking a lap around your house every few hours to decrease your risk of developing a blood clot.

The First Weeks of Your Tummy Tuck Recovery

In general, people take two weeks off from work for their recovery and avoid strenuous activity for three months. The day of your procedure, you should be up and walking around. Starting with short walks, you should gradually increase your level of activity. We advise you to avoid strenuous activity, especially any activity that may strain your abdominal muscles.

Full Tummy Tuck Recovery and Final Results

Although you will likely feel back to normal within a couple of weeks, your healing will still be progressing. It may take up to 12 weeks for your abdominal muscles to fully heal, and in six months you will be able to see your final results from the procedure: a smoother, slimmer abdomen. To maintain the results from your tummy tuck, we recommend following a healthy diet and an exercise routine that works for you.
