What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian butt lift, also known as gluteal fat grafting, is a procedure that adds volume to the buttocks with fat grafted from other areas of your body. Patients often choose a Brazilian butt lift to enhance their silhouette, fit their clothes better, give the impression of a slimmer waist, or boost their confidence. If you have other areas you’d like to address, we also offer other surgeries like a tummy tuck or liposuction with your Brazilian butt lift to help you achieve the results you desire.

Brazilian Butt Lift
If you’re looking to reshape your bottom, you might come across a butt lift along with a Brazilian butt lift. While they might have similar names, they have two different outcomes. If you’re interested in either, it might help to know the difference.

A butt lift, also known as a gluteal lift, focuses on removing excess skin and fat in the area to make the bottom tighter. Unlike a Brazilian butt lift, this procedure does not add extra volume. During the surgery, your surgeon makes an incision along the lower back and removes the excess skin and fat. They then reposition the remaining skin to create a more toned look.

A Brazilian butt lift does not address loose skin. If you want your skin tightened, you might want to consider having a butt lift or lower body lift along with your Brazilian butt lift. If you’re looking for a butt lift or a Brazilian butt lift, we have a team of professional plastic surgeons ready to take care of you.

Adding Liposuction to your Brazilian Butt Lift

Brazilian Butt Lift
While a Brazilian butt lift requires fat to be removed from a harvest site. If you want to improve other areas of your contour along with your Brazilian butt lift, you should know the difference between fat grafting and liposuction.

Fat grafting removes fat from the body with liposuction to reinject it into another area. We only take the amount we need, which may or may not be the amount you want to get the contour you desire. We also generally only use one donor site for fat grafting, while liposuction can target multiple areas. The most popular site for fat grafting is the hips. Your surgeon may also take from the inner or outer thighs or the stomach, depending on your needs and goals. Unlike fat grafting, liposuction removes larger amounts of fat for the sole purpose of redefining your shape and removing fat in target areas. If you want to include liposuction with your Brazilian butt lift, you can discuss your options with your provider and see what they can do for you.

Ideal candidates for this surgery should be in good health, a non-smoker, and close to their ideal body weight. At the consultation, your provider will ask you questions about your health history, current medication, and previous surgeries to make sure there are no complications for your procedure. For your safety, it’s important to answer your provider honestly, as any unknown health issues could impair your recovery. For the best outcome, candidates should also have realistic expectations, a positive outlook, and understand all risks.

The Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure

At the consultation, your provider will talk you through the entire surgery and answer any questions you have. After you schedule your surgery, your next appointment will be your first pre-op. This meeting will take place two to four weeks before your Brazilian butt lift. At the first pre-op, you will meet with a nurse who will discuss your current medications, health history, and previous surgeries to make sure there are no complications. The nurse will also give you your pre and post-op care instructions and answer any questions you have.

After your first pre-op with a nurse, you will have a second pre-op with your surgeon. This meeting is also two to four weeks before your procedure. During this time, your surgeon will walk you through your surgery and answer any other questions or concerns you may have. On the day of surgery, you will meet with OR nurses who will prepare you for your procedure. You will receive any necessary markings from your surgeon and address any last-minute questions or concerns. You will also have the opportunity to discuss any previous issues with anesthesia with your anesthesiologist before surgery.

A Brazilian butt lift can take around two hours. It is also an outpatient procedure, so you will need a friend or loved one to drive you there and pick you up after. For your safety, they should also spend at least one night with you to make sure there aren’t any complications. After the procedure, you will be provided with a compression garment specifically made for the grafted area so it doesn’t compress the fat graft. Your provider will recommend how long you should wear it for successful healing, the recommended time is typically about a month. If you have any questions or concerns about this procedure, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We want you to feel confident and comfortable when taking the next step.

Brazilian Butt Lift Risks and Recovery

Brazilian Butt Lift Risks: Just like all other surgeries, a Brazilian butt lift procedure still carries risks. We want you to be fully informed before you make your decision, so at your consultation, you and your provider will discuss all the risks associated with a Brazilian butt lift. If any of these risks concern you, don’t hesitate to voice them with your provider. Your safety is our number one priority. Our team of board-certified plastic surgeons and nurses take every precaution to make sure you are safe and that your surgery is successful.

Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery: Brazilian Butt Lifts often do not have a quick recovery time, but each patient heals at their own pace. Generally, you will experience common side effects like temporary bruising, swelling, and pain. You and your provider will discuss aftercare that is tailored to your procedure and lifestyle. The aftercare might include medication, time off work, light exercise, and more depending on your personal needs. At your post-op appointments, you will meet with your provider so they can check in on your healing progress and ensure there are no complications.

As you recover you should also keep in mind that your initial results after the procedure will not be your final results. Like all fat grafting procedures, (20-40%) of fat could be reabsorbed, so your buttocks will not be as voluminous as you first thought. After six months, you should be healed and you will finally see your full results. For long-lasting results, maintain your new figure with diet and exercise.
