When Will I See the Final Results from My Nose Surgery?

Sep 27, 2011

Some things are worth waiting for. Ripe garden tomatoes. True love. And natural-looking rhinoplasty results. Recovery from nose surgery is notoriously unpredictable. Generally, we can predict that you should be able to return to all your normal activities in about 6-8 weeks. However, when you will see your final results is a bit more mysterious. In general, we estimate your final results should be visible any time from three months to a year or more after surgery.

Why so long? Although your skin seems to be in place immediately after your nose surgery, it takes time for it to find its proper relation to the new underlying tissues. And it takes time for these underlying tissues themselves to heal. Your nose may look like the swelling has gone down, but inside the swelling may persist for many months. Ironically, the swelling may be worst in the places where you had the most correction, so that if you are judging your results too soon, you may think that the hump or enlarged tip has not been resolved, but it has, you just have to wait for it.

This is actually not a bad thing. Waiting months or a year for your final nose surgery results can help these results to seem not just better than the nose you so disliked, but more like a part of your face. The gradual change from the day of surgery to full recovery helps your rhinoplasty results seem natural and normal to you and those around you.
