But despite all the effort we put in, losing that excess body fat can still be difficult. Sometimes the fat is just too stubborn and does not seem to be affected by all those diets and exercises. In such cases, a number of people opt for a fat-removal procedure known as ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL).
Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction
All of us are familiar with liposuction. It is a cosmetic procedure that is used to extract excess fat cells from specific areas like the abdomen, arms, thighs, and buttocks.
Ultrasound-assisted liposuction makes the process of fat removal even simpler. In ultrasound-assisted liposuction, ultrasonic waves are targeted to the areas where fat has to be removed. The energy from the ultrasonic waves liquefies fat cells, which are then removed. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction can be used to remove fat from almost anywhere on the body.
Ultrasound-assisted liposuction has a number of benefits compared to traditional liposuction. It allows for more precision when removing fat. It is much gentler, leading to a shorter and more comfortable healing process. It also increases the contraction of the skin after the procedure.
Before Your UAL Procedure
Prior to the UAL procedure, discuss your needs and aesthetic goals with your surgeon during a consultation. Make sure to discuss any previous history of medical complications or drug allergies with your surgeon; this helps to rule out any complications that may present themselves during the course of the surgery.
The UAL Procedure – What to Expect
During the procedure, a mixture of a local anesthetic and a saline solution is injected into the targeted areas. This mixture is known as tumescent fluid and makes the process of fat removal easier.
Once the tumescent fluid has been injected, ultrasonic energy is delivered to the fat cells through a cannula. As soon as the ultrasonic energy reaches the fat cells, it liquefies the fat. The liquefied fat emulsifies when combined with the tumescent fluid and is then removed quite easily.
Your Healing Process
Immediately after the surgery, patients are likely to experience some swelling and redness around the treatment areas. Patients are recommended to use ice packs to help bring down the swelling. Proper rest is absolutely necessary, and it is advised that you refrain from too much physical exertion. Recovery varies from person to person and depends on the extent of fat removal.
