There are currently no high-quality studies on the longevity of eyelid surgery results. Sometimes surgeons will quote figures like five, seven, or ten years, but the truth is nobody knows for sure. This is in part because the results are very long-lasting, almost permanent. Most people who have eyelid surgery never need to have it again. This isn’t because eyelid surgery stops the aging process, it’s just because the eyelids are not subject to the same forces that affect other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as a facelift.
Unlike the sagging of other tissues, sagging in the eyelids is not due primarily to gravity, but is more influenced by hereditary factors. And when your eyelids are reshaped, they are not put under tension, so neither of these is generally a factor in determining the life of your results.
More often what happens is other tissues in the area can mimic the effects of a return of excess tissue in the eyelids. In particular, sagging brows can make it appear as if your eyelids are sagging again, but the proper treatment is not another blepharoplasty, but a brow lift.
