Is Your Skin Looking Dull and Weathered? A Chemical Peel Can Give You Back That Healthy Glow

Aug 29, 2019

For someone who wants to improve the look of their skin, a chemical peel offers an effective solution. If your skin is looking dull and weathered and you want a way to rejuvenate your face, neck, and hands, consider this treatment option.

A chemical peel involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin. This exfoliates the skin so that it peels away over time. Fresh new skin layers are revealed; these layers look healthier, smoother, and less wrinkled.

Why Get a Chemical Peel?

Getting a chemical peel can do the following:
9
Improve the overall look of the skin and create a youthful glow.
9
Reduce fine lines below the eyes and near the mouth.
9
Reduce wrinkles.
9
Treat acne, freckles, and some types of dark spots.
9
Treat skin that is affected by sun damage.

Who Can Get a Chemical Peel?

People with any type of skin can get a chemical peel done. However, those who are fair-skinned can expect more striking results than those who are dark-skinned.

A chemical peel is not the best type of treatment for severe wrinkles or sagging skin. In these cases, surgical procedures are often more effective solutions.

Types of Chemical Peels

There are three types of chemical peels:

Superficial Peel

This gentler peel involves the use of a mild acid that exfoliates the outer layer of the skin. This proves useful for refreshing the skin and treating mild discoloration.

Medium Peel

Here, the outer and middle layers are exfoliated, removing the damaged skin cells. This is useful for treating wrinkles, freckles, rough skin, and moderate discoloration.

Deep Peel

This involves a deep treatment of the middle layer of the skin. Shallow scars, wrinkles, age spots, and lines can all be removed. The effects are usually significant. This procedure can be done only once.

How Is a Chemical Peel Done?

A thorough examination is done by Dr. Gayoso during a consultation at our office. On the date of the treatment, the targeted region is first cleaned. After that, the chemical solution is applied. The type of solution used depends on the type of skin peel. This solution encourages the skin to peel away, thereby revealing new layers.

Cool compresses are used to alleviate mild symptoms such as a burning sensation, and painkillers may also be prescribed.

After the Peel

The time required for the skin to heal depends on the type of chemical peel used. Lotions, creams, and sunscreen may need to be applied while the healing is in progress, since the tissues may be tender and prone to damage.

Sun exposure should be avoided at all costs to prevent complications. Follow-up appointments will be needed for medium and deep peel procedures.
