What Happens Right after My Plastic Surgery?

Oct 24, 2012

If you are considering plastic surgery, it’s important to make sure you understand as much as possible about the procedure as you can. This includes understanding your recovery period.

Immediately After The Surgery

After your surgery is complete, you will be taken to a recovery room where you will be closely monitored. If your plastic surgery was performed under general anesthesia, this is where you will wake up. Although the risk of complications is slight, we want to make absolutely sure that everything is as expected before you are released. You will talk to the nurses and your plastic surgeon about the procedure. They will attempt to gauge your recovery through these interviews and tests will be performed to establish when you are ready to be released. This may be up to several hours after your procedure.

Heading Home

When you are ready, we will talk to you and your driver about your care on that day and the next few days. You will be given instructions verbally and in writing. We will make sure you understand the procedures in detail before you are released.

On the day of your plastic surgery, you can eat if you feel like it, and you should drink fluids to avoid dehydration. Otherwise, you should emphasize rest and recovery. Beyond that, the specifics of your recovery procedures will depend on the plastic surgery performed.
