Can I Have Children After a Mommy Makeover?

Jun 18, 2011

Although a mommy makeover will not prevent you from having additional children, most doctors—including plastic surgeons who perform mommy makeovers—advise women to hold off on such surgery until they are finished having children.

Mommy makeovers include a combination of plastic surgery procedures designed to help you restore a more youthful appearance following the physical toll of pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. A mommy makeover may include the following procedures:

  • Breast augmentation
  • Breast lift
  • Breast reduction
  • Liposuction
  • Tummy tuck

Because these surgical procedures are intended to provide long-lasting to permanent results, it’s best to wait until after you are done having children to undergo a mommy makeover. Pregnancy causes physical changes that can negate the effects of mommy makeover procedures.

For example, a tummy tuck tightens the vertical muscles of the abdomen. With pregnancy, those muscles could reseparate. Similarly, your breasts change with pregnancy and affect the results of breast augmentation or breast lift procedures.

Again, pregnancy is possible after a mommy makeover, but it may create the need for revision surgery.
