At Gayoso Plastic Surgery, we are happy and excited to be a part of the newest innovation in breast reconstruction. Using the BRAVA Breast Enhancement and Shaping System as an external tissue expander, we are now able to help women achieve reconstructed breasts made of their own tissue without invasive flap surgery.
First, the BRAVA system is worn as a sleeping bra for 3-5 weeks. During this time, the BRAVA system creates tension that expands the chest area, similar to the way internal tissue expanders stretch the breast to allow the insertion of a breast implant. But instead of an implant, the new breast is filled with your own fat, harvested using liposuction from wherever you have excess fat and treated prior to re-injection.
The advantages of this procedure include:
- Results look and feel natural
- No breast implant required–only your tissue is used
- No major surgery required as for flap-based reconstruction
- No additional scars and virtually no recovery time
- Suitable for delayed reconstruction
- Relatively large breasts can be reconstructed
During the initial reconstruction procedure, a B-cup size breast can be achieved. Larger breasts can be reconstructed with additional treatment over a period of 2-6 months.
This is an new procedure and we are currently the only practice in the Tampa Bay area enrolling patients in clinical trials for this breakthrough breast reconstruction technique. The procedure has been performed dozens of times with great results and we hope to further demonstrate its effectiveness. In addition, we hope to offer this soon as an alternative for cosmetic breast augmentation for women that do not want implants.
