Rhinoplasty

Tampa, St Petersburg, and Clearwater, Florida Nose Surgery

If you do not like the shape of your nose, you have probably long wished you could change it. Whether your nose is too large or you do not like the shape, rhinoplasty can correct the appearance of your nose to help you feel more confidence in your appearance. You may have tried various hair styles, hats, and makeup strategies to draw attention away from your nose, but in the end noses are just impossible to hide. You have only two options: learn to live with it or change it. If you have tried, but can't reconcile yourself to the current appearance of your nose, we can help you understand what can be done to improve the appearance of your nose.

This page gives some basic information, but the best way to learn about the subtle or dramatic changes possible with rhinoplasty is in a consultation with Dr. Antonio J. Gayoso. Please call or email Gayoso Plastic Surgery today to set up your appointment.

Common Complaints about the Nose

Although most people are able to live with their nose, it is not unusual to have complaints about your nose's appearance, including:

  • Nose too large or wide
  • Tip too large, wide, or droopy
  • Nose or tip too small
  • Crooked, bent, or unattractive bridge
  • Nostrils too wide or upturned
  • Nostrils too narrow or constricted
  • Broken nose

These are just some of the more common complaints that can be addressed with rhinoplasty. If you have these or any other complaints about the appearance of your nose, a nose job may be right for you.

The Rhinoplasty Consultation

The rhinoplsaty consultation is crucial to getting you the results you desire from your surgery. During your consultation, Dr. Gayoso will strive to understand your goals and design a procedure that gives you the results you want, an attractive nose that is in harmony with the rest of your facial features. Rarely, he might recommend other facial plastic surgery procedures that might do more to bring your face into proportion, such as cheek or chin augmentation.

The first step in your consultation is when Dr. Gayoso listens to your concerns about the appearance of your nose and what you want to change. He does not begin with any preconceived judgments about what your nose should look like, he just listens to what you want.

Then he works with his Canfield Face Sculptor imaging system. He takes a three-dimensional image of your face and nose, then makes the changes you requested on the image. Once those changes are made, he might make recommendations for complementary changes that help achieve an overall shape to your nose that is both attractive and harmonious. Once you are happy with the general concept of the goals, Dr. Gayoso will schedule your surgical appointment.

Rhinoplasty Procedure, Results, and Recovery

For simple surgeries, Dr. Gayoso uses a closed rhinoplasty, in which all the incisions are located inside the nose. In most cases, though, he will make an incision in the columella, the skin between your nostrils. This allows him to better visualize the changes to your nose and make them precise. This incision generally heals well and most people have a very subtle trace that is not generally noticeable. Once the reshaping of your nose is complete, it may be packed or fitted with tubes to help it hold its shape.

Although you do not need to take much time off work after your rhinoplasty, perhaps a week, until any sutures or splints are removed, you will have to refrain from vigorous activities for perhaps six weeks. There may be some minor swelling that will persist for some time after surgery. Your nose will look better immediately after surgery than it did before, but your final results may not be visible for several months, over which time it will continue to improve.

You can learn more about the procedure on our Questions about Nose Surgery page.

Why Choose Dr. Gayoso for Your Rhinoplasty

Some plastic surgeons have a preconceived notion about what makes "the ideal nose," and everyone who comes to them gets the same nose. To get the results you want and not the nose your surgeon likes, you need to work with a board-certified plastic surgeon who does not begin with preconceived notions about what makes a nose attractive.

Tampa nose surgeon, Dr. Antonio J. Gayoso begins every consultation by listening to you about your concerns and goals. Then he uses his skill, training, and experience as a board-certified plastic surgeon to help you get the results you desire.
